“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
-Martin Luther King Jr.
I grew up in El Paso, Texas where the culture and food were rich and vibrant. Growing up in a large city where over a third of the population is without a high school diploma and whose community has one of the highest poverty rates in the country planted a deep desire in me to affect change. I believe that with the right education and resources an entire community can be transformed, and I want to see that transformation happen! I aim to serve, empower, educate and equip families and children by bringing light, hope, and love into the dark places of our community. I seek to be that light that drives out the dark, and to inspire others to do the same.
On a more personal note, I have my degree in Human Development and Family Science from the University of North Texas. I have experience as a parent educator with difficult populations, and am a Family Life Educator – working through the National Council on Family Relations. I also work for a company called Responsive Learning, where we bring trainings, supportive networks, and coaching and mentorship to school campuses that are under-resourced, isolated, or otherwise in need of more resources to make a meaningful, lasting impact in their communities. I’m a wife to the funniest electrical engineer you’ll meet, and the mother of the most joyous 10 year old and adventurous 7 year old. I love people and human connection, so naturally that’s what I spend my time studying and teaching. I love to read and create, and am happiest when I’m outside enjoying all of creation!
