“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
-Martin Luther King Jr.
I grew up in El Paso, Texas where the culture and food were rich and vibrant. Growing up in a large city where over a third of the population is without a high school diploma and whose community has one of the highest poverty rates in the country planted a deep desire in me to affect change. I believe that with the right education and resources an entire community can be transformed, and I want to see that transformation happen! I aim to serve, empower, educate and equip families and children by bringing light, hope, and love into the dark places of our community. I seek to be that light that drives out the dark, and to inspire others to do the same.
On a more personal note, I have my degree in Human Development and Family Science from the University of North Texas. I have experience as a parent educator with difficult populations, and am a Certified Family Life Educator – provisional through the National Council on Family Relations. Provisional certifications are awarded to candidates with the training necessary for full CFLE status, but have yet to complete the necessary work hours for full certification. I’m a wife to the funniest electrical engineer you’ll meet, and the mother of the most joyous preschooler and squishy little newborn. I love people and human connection, so naturally that’s what I spend my time studying and teaching. I love to read and create, and am happiest when I’m outside enjoying all of creation!
